Recent iPhone Buyers Compared to Initial Buyers
In Part II of the iPhone story, we have found that recent iPhone buyers do not match the profile of initial iPhone buyers.
iPhone buyers who purchased their phones in July and August 2007 differ from the rest of the phone buyers of 2007. While the early adopters skewed toward younger, male, and minority consumers, more recent iPhone buyers are middle-aged and white. The phone is also becoming more popular among females.

Most likely due to limited inventory at the carrier, the first iPhone buyers purchased the phone through Apple. However, over half of later buyers purchased the phone through AT&T.

Word-of-mouth has been a major influence on the selection of the iPhone for more recent buyers. Friends, relatives, and store personnel are recommending the iPhone, and consumers are listening.

The demographic profile and purchasing behavior of iPhone buyers has changed since the phone was first launched over six months ago. However, iPhone buyers overall remain a distinct group compared to the average cell phone buyer, even though the iPhone owner profile is changing.
